چکیده
Study sample No sample size appears to have been determined in the planning phase of the study to assure a certain power. Patients admitted to the authors' hospital for colorectal disease were assessed for study eligibility. Of the 588 patients assessed, 71 were excluded (14 refused to participate, 24 for infiltrating organ, 14 for cardiovascular problems, 8 for infection, 8 for respiratory problems, 2 for hepatic problems and 1 for neutropenia). Of the remaining 517 patients, 258 were allocated to LPS and 259 to open surgery.

Laparoscopic versus open colorectal surgery: cost-benefit analysis in a single-center randomized trial.
SUMMARY BACKGROUND DATA Studies comparing the costs of colorectal resection by laparoscopic (LPS) and open approaches are small sized or not randomized. The main purpose of this study is to compare the hospital costs of LPS and open colorectal surgery in a large series of randomized patients. METHODS A total of 517 patients with colorectal disease were randomly assigned to LPS (n = 258) or op...
متن کاملOpen versus laparoscopic liver resection for colorectal liver metastases (the Oslo-CoMet study): study protocol for a randomized controlled trial
BACKGROUND Laparoscopic liver resection is used in specialized centers all over the world. However, laparoscopic liver resection has never been compared with open liver resection in a prospective, randomized trial. METHODS/DESIGN The Oslo-CoMet Study is a randomized trial into laparoscopic versus open liver resection for the surgical management of hepatic colorectal metastases. The primary ou...
متن کاملFeasibility of a multicentre, randomised controlled trial of laparoscopic versus open colorectal surgery in the acute setting: the LaCeS feasibility trial protocol
INTRODUCTION Acute colorectal surgery forms a significant proportion of emergency admissions within the National Health Service. There is limited evidence to suggest minimally invasive surgery may be associated with improved clinical outcomes in this cohort of patients. Consequently, there is a need to assess the clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of laparoscopic surgery in the acute...
متن کاملComparison of Early Results and Complications between Multi-and Single-Port Sleeve Gastrectomy: A Randomized Clinical Study
AbstractBackground: In recent years, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) has become more acceptable for obese patients. Single-port sleeve gastrectomy (SPSG) is more popular since each abdominal incision carries the risk of bleeding, hernia, and internal organ injury as well as exponentially affecting cosmesis. This cross-sectional study aimed at comparing multi-port sleeve gastrectomy (MPSG)...

In period 1, 478 patients had open surgery performed or supervised by 3 staff colorectal surgeons. In period 2, 656 patients underwent either open surgery (n 401) by the same 3 surgeo...
